May 14th– 1799
My neglect my Dr Sir in not answering your very obliging Letter by the last Packet, I hope your goodness will excuse, Permit me now therefore to return you my most sincere thanks for that, as well as for your kind offers of Friendship, be assured your attention is not lost, & shall always with pleasure look up to you as a Friend, My Dr Boys I am sure acknowledges you as such, for in you they have always experienced the tenderness of a Parent, their little Hearts I am happy to say, are truly grateful, for on every occasion the greatest Affection they express for your family, I need not my Dr Sir entreat a continuance of your Friendship in their favor, for I well know your fatherly feeling will always induce you to call & see them whenever you go up to London, I can answer for them that the pleasure on their sides will be great[.]
I had a Letter from their Mother wherein she mentions her Intentions of leaving England in the Fleet that was to sail in the Month of April or May, I hope her native air will once more restore her Health, which I am sorry to hear has been very Indifferent for some time past, The parting between herself & Children will be truly painful as she [is] a most tender Parent, but she has the satisfaction of knowing that she leaves them under the protection of very good indulgent Friends, which they have always been fortunate in meeting with–
I wrote to my Friend Mrs Clarke by the last Packet & you will please to present to her my best regards[.] I was much obliged to her for the Pickles & Biscuits which I received safe, I have sent by the Rebecca a Keg of Tamarinds which I beg Mrs Clarkes acceptance of–

Miss Trepsack presents her Compts to you & Mrs Clarke & hopes Mrs Clarke will do her the favor to accept a small keg of Tamarinds sent in the John– she wrote to Mrs Clarke by the Grantham Packet immediately on her arrival–
