Published in The Brownings’ Correspondence, 1, 321 (in part).

[Hope End]

[1 May 1819] [1]

To dearest Mama

on her birthday

1

Ye Muses nine

Your powers combine

And lend your aid in every line

To greet a mothers birth

2

And then sweet Thalia blythesome Muse

Within me all thy fire infuse

Nor thou thy aid refuse

But fill our souls with mirth

3

But as Erato will not stay

I myself must haste away

Unto the pleasures of the day

<And> all the joys that frequent earth.

Edward Barrett
