My sweet little George Gooden
I cannot help offering you my most grateful thanks to Saint Swithen for having dried up his tears & smiled upon you to day & I hope your smiles may always shine through his tears & that when you may arrive at the period of manhood you may be both good & happy but I need not hope for the latter if I am not disapointed in the former for he who is virtuous is ever happy but I can but hope Hope is my suppport as it is that of all me. So I remain
always your affect bro<ther>
