My dear Mrs Reid

I have just (today) received a letter from you dated Jany 21—of which I enclose the cover[—]it appears to have been peregrinating like Leigh Hunt’s pig—“up & down all manner of streets”—& reaches me here at Brighton, where I arrived yesterday not from London, wh I left of the 20th but from Sydenham where I was for some days rather acutely & seriously ill, from over exertion during the few days I was in town– Thank you dear! for your kind invitation. I will not be in town next month but I believe I shall go into a lodging which I have in my mind—(in Maddox Street)—& then I will dine with you gladly—but I must remain here till I get up some strength.–

I am glad you are at work again—but I am afraid the settlement of the woman’s question involves more than “Colleges” can do, excellent tho’ they be—but let all the good & the hopeful bring each their specific & then combined—something will be done. Meantime, God bless you my dear kind friends!
