Mr W. E. Gladstone presents his compliments to Mr Browning & begs to apprise him that after receiving Mr Browning’s letter of March 22 he awaited the arrival of the pamphlet which Mr Browning was so good as to say was sent ‘therewith’. It did not however come & Mr W. E. Gladstone has at once to return his thanks for the intention & to explain the cause of his silence.
