Gentlemen

I beg to acknowledge the receipt your letter of August 1st communicating to me the melancholy loss I had sustained in the death of my Father, an Event the more distressing as it was so unexpected.

I have perused with much attention and consideration the Copy of the Will you enclosed me, and have taken the determination to decline interfering at all in my poor Father’s affairs as Executor– I need not I am sure enter into the Motives that have dictated to me this Line of Conduct, as they must have suggested themselves to you before this.
