SD2311.  Thomas Buchanan Read to F.J. Dreer

As published in The Brownings’ Correspondence, 27, 338.

[                  ]

28 December 1859

… I have just seen the engraving of Mrs Browning it is very satisfactory, though I think the eyes might be made a little more shadowy and the mouth a little more severe—not quite so sweet and smiling. I feel a good deal of interest in this portrait of Mrs B. as it [is] one of the very few portraits for which the lady ever sat and I consider it one of the best likenesses I have ever made.

Yours very truly

T. Buchanan Read
