SD2319.  Journal Entry of William Cornwallis Cartwright

As published in The Brownings’ Correspondence, 27, 339.

Rome

1860 Jan. 10.

I mean to keep henceforth a diary—noting down especially such occurrences, conversations & acquaintances as I may encounter which might some day be interesting to remember in reference to historical events.– I begin therefore with yesterday (Jany 9th) weather beautiful. Drove with Mrs Story, Browning & Arthur Russell to the Roman tombs & Basilica of St Stephen on the Via Latina. There saw Odo Russell who had returned from his audience with the Pope to wish him the compliments of the season.

Publication: None traced.

Manuscript: Northamptonshire Record Office.
