SD2328. Journal Entry of William Cornwallis Cartwright
Published in The Brownings’ Correspondence, 27, 341 (in part).
Rome
1860 Jan. 21.
Bad weather. Walked before breakfast. Went to Russell. Home. Read. Drove with Clementine. Here dined with me Desloges, Canitz, Ottenfels, Newton, Browning & the two Russells. There is something going on between the French Embassy & the Vatican. Gramont has been closeted with the Cardinal two days running. He has been trying hard to get the Cardinal to ask for the Congress. The drift is not clear.
Publication: None traced.
Manuscript: Northamptonshire Record Office.
