Jany 13. 1820.
[To Sam on his birthday]
From Heavens ethereal regions I implore
Blessings on you dear Sam for ever more
And may you bounteous Heaven grant my prayer sincere
That thou may’st ne’er have cause to shed a tear
Which if it fall may’t prove but Aprils shower
And blunt your pleasure only for an hour
And may delightful gladness ne’er depprest
Check every sigh that swells your youthful breast
And may each blessing that my tongue can tell
Be centered in that little word farewell.
[Edward]
