My dear Mr Milsand,

Poor dear Lady Elgin passed away on Saturday evening without further suffering.

I send two Athenæums,—you will see Robert’s indignant note to the critique—it is certainly one of the most unfair things– The poem was published some years ago in the “Liberty Bell”, an Anti-Slavery work, and was addressed to America, not England.

Dine with us on Wednesday, if you feel inclined,—but I will not quarrel with you if you do not.
