My dear Mr Hunt,

Mr Browning showed me a letter from you the other day in which you expressed a desire to have copies of any letters which your Father had written to me. I am very sorry to say that all but one of the letters with which he favored me are now in Boston and that it would be impossible for me to get possession of them by any other hands than my own or I would at once write to my agent and beg him to have them copied & sent to you. …

The letter which I now send you copied is eminently interesting. From your allusions to Mr. Lee in your letter to Mr. Browning I fancy that you are completely informed as to that whole matter. …
