Dear Mary– I received your letter only a few days before I left Fenham to which you should have had an immediate answer had I not thought it best to make some enquiries respecting your Brother which might prove satisfactory & acceptable to you. My sudden calling from home prevented me doing as much as I wished to further his employment. I however sent a man of great business uses Cartwright, who has promised to let me know as soon as he hears of any Gentleman or person wanting a Man in yr Brother’s capacity or in case he should be able to employ him, himself. My Brother James will also do all he can for him. Had he applied a few weeks sooner he could have sent him to Jamaica (if he liked). I have also spoken to Mr S Barrett who I am sure will exert himself for him—& when I return home which which will be next week I will continue to make many enquiries, as be assured dear Mary I shall always feel happy to be of service to you in any way. Give my affectionate love & a kiss to my sweetest Arabella. I am sorry I have never sent her a letter. We leave London tomorrow– Believe me dear Mary I must ever remain your Sincere Friend
