My dearest Robert

What a great sorrow this has been & is to us all! I have felt few things in my life so much … Write me as soon as you can a good long letter—telling me all about dear Browning and yourself, and what your intercourse had been with her before the final illness. … It grieves me to the heart that I must leave town before Browning arrives. But it is unavoidable. I have written to him in Paris urgently entreating him to pass the week with me when I shall be in town—from 19th to 26th August: It would be intolerable if he left without our meeting. He has written me a most manly & most affectionate letter. … I sent you & Miss Blagden messages through Browning. What a good true soul she must be. …
