Your letter of the 15th my dearest Robert—what a comfort to have a dated letter from you! reached me yesterday. … I am here in town between two absences. I arrived on Saturday, and leave again for another three weeks travel, next Monday. After that, I shall have business to keep me here for a fortnight or so (in which interval I hope to receive Browning), and then we go for a six weeks holiday. … By all means send me the Review when complete. And it shall go hard but I’ll find a place for it in either Edinburgh or Quarterly. Nevertheless it will be best meanwhile to say nothing to RB until it has certainly secured its place—though I will not permit myself to doubt of accomplishing it with no great difficulty. Browning deserves such appreciation as yours—and you will remember, I am sure, not to over strain the mere Expression of the paper; but rather to Elicit strongly, and impress as plainly & simply as may be, the wiser meaning & purpose of those very remarkable writings. … The good dear Browning has not been able yet to visit England. But he proposes to come in a month or six weeks—and I am going to urge him to come in the shorter time, to come and pass a fortnight in our house before we go on our holiday—looking about him in that little interval for a house towards the Bayswater & Kensington district, and quietly surveying the ground with me before he settles for the winter. We will doubtless be as much together as possible. …
