My dear Miss Heaton

Thank you affectionately for the little precious photograph you have sent me. I thank you also for the kind & sympathizing note. The sorrow has been deep & overwhelming—but a sorrow full of hope, so I have been sustained & borne up. It is of no use writing about it. How deep the trial has been to me, God, who inflicted it, only knows. I thank Him, for all the promise of the future life, where there will be a reunion, & a full compensation for all the sorrow here. We wait for that—& we may not have to wait long! With many thanks for your valuable present & kind sympathy, believe me to be, dear Miss Heaton,
