My dear Sarianna–
I have come in just in time to escape a heavy Shower—having returned from the Sorbonne, where I could not procure the Book I wanted—& from the Institute which is shut up– So that I must go to Rue Richelieu in order to get the information I wanted–
Yesterday, I pitched upon Law’s serious Call, for which I paid a franc—it is marked 4s/6d & not a leaf cut–
I left the Book at Miss Blackwell’s & had some difficulty in finding the home havg been sent a mile out of my way by a man, whom I was foolish enough to enquire of, merely because I heard him speaking English, & yet the street was directly opposite to the place where he was standing– I have bought the 2d & 3d Volumes of Norvins’ life of Bonaparte—for the sake of the Maps, Portraits & Plans of Battle which they contain. For these I paid a Franc– I merely mention these things as I wish to account to you for any sums I lay out.–
I am sorry to tell you that Monsr Louis is not so well to day—his wife has just come from the Infirmary[–]
I have seen nobody since you left: & go to bed & rise at my usual hour– It is now pouring heavily—& I must make up my mind to go to the Bibliotque tomorrow–
Give my kind love to Robert & Peni—& pleased to hear you had such a comfortable passage–
