Dearest–

I sit down to write fully anticipating that before I get through you will have been speaking to me by letter. … But the glory of glories has been a full, grand, frank, hearty 2 hours talk today with Robert Browning. I cannot say what will give you an idea of him except to say that he is all that I imagined he would be, is worthy to be the Author of Pippa, & is just like our likeness of him. He is going to walk with me about London. Whilst there his son (14 years) came in; he is a very interesting boy; & he & his father are among the heartiest friends of our Country in England. I think I have almost persuaded him to write a brave lyric about our land & her struggle. …
