Many thanks for such prompt kindness in the matter of servants for me. I think you are right …

I wrote to Mr. Linton advising omission of that ill done cut in the title page. Do you now think that, if there is room, it would be well to introduce a quotation from Browning’s poem of Pictor Ignotus which suggested part of the title of the book. Would not these lines be tolerably suitable. As thus:–

The Sanctuary’s gloom at least shall ward

Vain tongues from where my pictures stand apart.
