I have been meaning to write any day since last seeing you …

Have you seen the blue-book on the Royal Academy—& would you like to see it? … The only evidence of the lot which is worth reading as original thought & insight is Ruskin’s. Him I saw the other day, & pitched into, he talked such awful rubbish, but he is a dear old chap too, and as soon as he was gone, I wrote my sorrows to him. Browning was here at same time, very jolly indeed, & stayed & walked many times round the rooms & many times stood still with his hands in his pockets & his eyes wide open. …
