Ye Gods who watch over the heads of the dull
Who can bless e’en the stupid, and fire e’en the fool
Come forth and in charity lend me your aid
And with me through the waters of Helicon wade
Too deep for my eyesight too deep for my head
I must beg some immortal to lend me his a<id>
Then hail my dear Sam, I hail thy blest birth
Though a Kingite, [2] it brought, us a brother on earth.
