I expect Carlyle and Browning to dine with me on New Year’s Day—and would be very happy if you have no engagement and can give us the Great pleasure of your company. We are still in much confusion, but you will forgive that. I hope to be in town tomorrow night. You will kindly address your reply to Palace Gate House. We dine at 7.
