SD2789.  Journal Entry of George Eliot

As published in The Brownings’ Correspondence, 32, 339.

[London]

15 October 1865

In the evening walked home with Browning, went into his house, and saw the objects Mrs. Browning used to have about her, her chair, tables, books etc. An epoch to be remembered. Browning showed us her Hebrew Bible with notes in her handwriting, and several of her copies of the Greek dramatists with her annotations.

Publication: The Journals of George Eliot, ed. Margaret Harris and Judith Johnston (Cambridge, 1998), p. 126.

Manuscript: Yale University.
