My dear Mr Milsand,
I was sorry to miss you yesterday. I had purposed going to Marly on Monday, but was so very unwell all Saturday night that I stayed at home for a couple of days. I am getting all right again now.
Many thanks for the book which contains many things that will interest me. This week’s Ath: contains the advertisement of a work likely to suit me, a translation from the French,—but no price is mentioned and I fear it will be expensive—perhaps I could get a glimpse of the French original, though I do not feel myself at home among French scientific terms. Do not give yourself any further trouble. I will manage it somehow.
By the bye, let me play schoolmaster over my superiors: in the unfinished beginning of the note to the publishers on the piece of paper you left for me yesterday, you had twice, by a slip of the pen, written treaties instead of treatises.
Did my father tell you that I had just had a letter from Robert? He complained of headache, and Pen was suffering from a bad cold; the best news being that he had already gained wonderfully in articulation, having the power of giving the sounds though not the facility.
Once more, many thanks for your kind recollection of my wants. I have brought some books from Marly, but they are not in your way. Miss Haworth had got another trunk of books from England,—though I had not time to examine them. She will spend Christmas in Germany.
