My dear Mr Snellgrove,

Many thanks for your kind attention to my request. I have followed your advice and addressed a letter to the Governor of the Bank, begging that some of the money paid and lost may be generously granted me. But I am ignorant of the best way of gaining attention to my cause—if I send the letter by post, I fear it may be thrown aside and forgotten– I do not know Mr Francis personally, but I know the great esteem in which my dear father held him, and the high opinion he had of Mr Francis’s talents and judgment. Would it be too much if I asked him kindly to take charge of my letter, and present it in any way he thinks best? I trust myself to his kindness.

I have just arrived in England, and hope soon to see you and tell you the particulars of my father’s peaceful, happy end, full of the hope of immortality; but I cannot write about it at present.

Pray remember me very kindly to Mrs Snellgrove– I did not think when I saw her last year in Paris that we should so soon meet in England under such altered circumstances.
