Dearest Janie,

You must hear about Browning. He has promised to send me his new work! I asked him if it was nearly finished. It will be very shortly, & is to come out in twelve parts with a fortnight’s interval between each part. Each part is complete in itself and quite intelligible. I am not sure that he did not say something about sending me the m.s. (to read) if I would promise to read it in that manner (that is with a fortnight’s pause)—but that is not possible. He asked if there was no chance of you returning, & made me promise to let him know if you did. …
