Dear Mr Barrett
Your note with the enclosed draft for £52.10 arrived safely, and in accordance with your instructions I wrote to Rome ordering my “minister” to deliver the bust to Mr Hooker to be by him forwarded to your address as contained in yr note– He will attend to it at once and I little doubt that the bust is already in Mr Hooker’s hands. I hope you will be pleased with it when you see it– The other copy for Mrs Lodge has already arrived in Boston and she writes me that it had been received with great enthusiasm—owing I suppose to the admiration which is there felt for Mr Browning– You must remember that it was modelled some six or seven years ago, & not expect it to be exactly what Mr Browning is now–
We are still at St. Moritz and for the last two days have had such charming weather that we willingly forget the ten days of rain & wind which preceded them. There was a large party on the Piz Languard to day & another on the Piz Oi– We on the contrary picnicked in the woods down by Campher. I enjoyed it vastly more than if we had been on the highest peak in Switzerland. All the hotels are crammed, though the Scarlet Fever has made its appearance at the King Haus– We here have measles– Cholera drives up crowds from Switzerland & Italy, & the whole valley is filled[.]
Pray give our most affectionate remembrances to Mr Browning & Pen—& with heartiest remembrances from us all to your self, Believe me dear Mr Barrett
