To

my dearest Papa

on

his birthday

_________

When morning, clad in lustre bright

Dispels the mists of silent night

The lark upraises to the azure sky

His swelling note in sweet toned melody

The flowret opens to the suns mild ray

And nature courts the blessings of the day,

But why today should morning sweeter seem

And Sol shine brighter with more powerful beam,

Why seems the lark to glide more light along

And sweeter melody inspire his song?

Affection answering quickly seems to say

A father fondly loved was born today
