SD446.  Edward Moulton-Barrett (brother) to Charles John Moulton-Barrett

[28 December] [?1822]

To

my dearest Stormy

on

his birthday

_________

Hail wreathed snows, hail winter’s icy chains

At whose dread nod, no more the fertile plains

Smile rich with golden harvest, & no more

The rippling waters kiss the verdant shore.

Yet men rejoice and from each glistning eye

Joy beams like sunshine in a summer sky.

If others hearts then feel such joy, and mirth,

We should feel double at a brother’s birth.

To you dear Storm may virtue then be giv’n

The best of gifts bestowed by bounteous heaven.
