No tones sublime, no lofty strains of fire,
From Mount Parnassus’ height, my voice inspire;
Nor ye Aonian sisters waste your time,
In prompting smiles, and flowing rhymes,
But sweet affections guides my humble lay
To hail the blessing of this happy day.
With notes endearing let each c[h]ord impart
The fond affection of a brothers heart.
To Alfred dear may joy serene be given
And choicest gifts bestowed by bounteous heavens,
May years revolving o’er his infant head
His faults effacing, virtues give instead
