My dearest Sam

Another day of happiness presents itselfe & I cannot let it pass without wishing you many more happy returns of it. I would have adressed you in verse but I did not know this pleasing day would have arrived so soon (in which I am most agreably surprised) and I not being so intimate with my Muse as Ba is with hers I am obliged to submit to my hard fate which I do very reluctantly but I hope you will not think me less sincere by it as indeed I am not. But where least is sayed most is felt so,
