My dearest Henrietta,
Pray accept this little birthday offering as a pledge of affection which will I trust only increase between us– I have been in despair of obtaining the clasp in time, which leaves me <no>t as many minutes as I would command <with> which to tell you all our wishes <and> affection to you– We will not wish <fo>r more happiness than that which you now secure to yourself, & the affection of every friend which you now claim. May your natal day pass happily as an earnest of your future life, and believe me that we shall think with affections of the Queen of the holiday who will I hope accept the best love of Sam & of her affectionate
