To my dearest Papa

his birthday. [28 May] 1825–

1
Beauteous and bright again the rosy spring
Shines forth in loveliness, and seem to throw
Over the verdant earth her shining wings
Like widowed beauty rising from her woe.
2
Streams, forests, hills again luxuriant shine.
And beauty lights again the glowing scene,
The genial sun and fragrant showers combine
To add fresh lustre to, that brilliant green.
3
But deeper feelings swell our conscious hearts,
Thou the vain joys which oer the landscape rove,
While on this day a father’s name imparts
The grateful memory of a fathers love.
Address, on integral page: E. M. Barrett Esqr / Hope End.
