August 13th 1825

My dearest Mama

I just sit down to write you a few lines to ask you if I may learn my French fables instead of my French as I know them quite perfect [.] Papa lost one of his cows yesterday by breaking its own leg[.] We killed three rats the day before yesterday but one of them was a foot long which Papa killed. Henry[’s] throat I am glad to say is much better this morning and I hope it will soon be better Whilst we are making the walks clean for your return Daisy fell down against the wheel Barrow[.] Before Ann took him up I thought he was very much hurt but when it was washed of[f] it was only a Scar but he has a black Plaster on his forehead. A Man came here Yesterday with some lovely things for a lottery which most of the servants put in but one of the prizes was most beatiful [sic] it was a box with all kind of artificial fruits and flowers. The prizes are to be given on Wednesday next Unicorn Ledbury. there is to be no Blanks the Box cost 4 pounds So the Man says. give my best love the Charlotte mind tell me about my verb.
