SD558.  Henrietta Moulton-Barrett to Edward Moulton-Barrett (father)

Published in The Brownings’ Correspondence, 1, 340 (in part).

[                  ]

[28 May] [?1826]

To my dear Papa

on his birthday

Returned to Home, returned to thee,

From pangs of absence, to sweet revelry,

Those pangs which constantly confind

My all (my love) to those I left behind,

Blessed am I now once more I’m here,

To tell my heart to him most dear,

Once more to deck the honored chair

With roses, & with lilies fair,

Once more to join the little throng,

That tells him all its love in song,

Once more to breathe his virtues mild—

On no! ’tis too much for thy child.

Henrietta
