My dearest Henrietta
I have just arrived here in time before the box is nailed up; it is pouring of rain and I came in a Hackney coach, and Grannys face is all chaped [sic]; the other boy is come back that was lost he went to a friends house and he took him to his father and his father brought him back again, and he has been flogged. We do not go in before Breakfast next Monday I am glad to say so I shall not get up in the dark, as I did this morning. Surtees the boy at Charterhouse in Mr Dickens, is very ill indeed he is not expected to live so I heard yesterday. Tippy is going to pack up the box directely so you must excuse bad writing. James I suppose will not be here for a long time, what fun you must have with him at Hope-End, I wish he would stay with you till Christmas, than I should have the pleasure of his company. There is not any news to tell you or else I would write a longer letter. Write as soon as you can. I saw a Juggler on Wednesday and he swallowed a sword, he really did, and he tossed a Cannon Ball off his arm with his Muscle and caught it on the back of his neck; and a good many other things which I will tell you some other time. I must wish you good bye as I am rather late now. Love to them all. Your ever affectionate Sam.
