On his birthday

This is the first time

I ever wrote in rhyme

I should like to be a poet

But I know not how to do it

Just as your friend Ba

To write to you bright star

I must leave my poetry as I cannot squeeze out of my head any rhyme to “many happy returns of the day,” except “I have nothing more to say” & that’s what I call rather stale, so I am dearest Seppy’s
