March 4th 1827
I am again called to the employment of writing another birthday letter which you know I inwardly detest and I beleive you do the same but as it is, so must it remain I cannot find any thing sentimental so I hope you will excuse me and I dare say what they call nonsense will amuse and entertain you quite as much.
You must know my dearest Henrietta my love and affection towards you without my attempting to describe it which I do not think I possibly could even if I tried for I feel it is so great. We ought to be always thankful to Him who hath sent us one who is and I hope will ever be endeared and beloved by us all. May we enjoy many many [1] happy returns of this birthday and have every reason to value and estimate it each year and with this wish I end my letter hoping that the person to whom it is addressed will not be offended at the first part of this letter if I have written any thing to give offence as I am not a very able penwriter I might make some mistakes which I have not meant but I hope they will not prevent my dearest Henrietta from always loving her very affectionate Arabel who will never [stop] loving her
