[1 May 1827]

This sweet month is always greeted on its first appearance with the celebration of the birthday of one so dear and well beloved by us all and for whom I hope we shall always have the greatest affection and gratitude.

I shall not attempt to describe my feelings on such an occasion as I know it is totally impossible and as I am conscious of my inability of a letter writer so I shall include them all in these three words, “I love you” and I am perfectly sure that dearest Mama will know that that is the true feeling of my heart.

This day is the happiest day in the year for us I hope you will see many happy returns of it and ever love

Your affectionate

Arabel

Address, on integral page: Mrs Barrett / Hope End / Ledbury.
