his birthday

Tis said that ’neath the pale moons light,
Sprites and fairies through the night
Hold their secret reveling,
Dancing round in mystic ring
And where their noiseless steps have been,
The turf is marked with brighter green.
Thus the wide spreading plain of life,
With many a verdant spot is rife,
Showing where affections sprite
Hath been to make the scene more bright.
And where could fitter place be found
Than this to take her fairy round
For turf, our hearts, for cold moon’s ray,
A father’s smile to cheer the way—
