My ever dearest Henrietta
Saturday has come and no letter from you or any body, I really think you must be angry with me for being so long before I wrote; But I can tell you I am very much dis-appointed at not hearing from you today, but I hope by Monday’s post to hear something or other about you all. I suppose Grand Mama is not coming as I sent that book for Tom by a Charterhouse boy last Saturday and the man said that they had left there. I have not been out yet this qua[r]ter, perhaps I shall go out next Saturday, I expected to go out very often, but I dare say I shall not go out at all. Mind and write and let me hear from you on Tuesday, if you do not you shall not hear from me I promise you; I expect to hear on Tuesday and Saturday, if not no letter from me next week. I suppose Papa is not coming to London; what can poor Bro do without his brushes that were sent in mistake– I have got them quite safe. The Strawberries are ripe at Hope-End I suppose for there are plenty in London; Rakwits brings them. How are the little Gardens getting on—I hope capital[l]y, and my cucumber bed, I suppose all of them dead. There is not any news here at present, I would not have written, if I had not Thought I should not have heard from you. I have been examined by Russel, all going well he said. Charterhouse at present is very dull, not any good games, very little cricket, some Tenace [sic], and nothing else. Mind and write and let me hear on Tuesday and Saturday twice next week if not no letter from me. Give my very best love to them all. I forget to tell you to tell Papa that Mr Peney is very much obliged to him for the £2 s5. but he says he need not have troubled himself till the bill was paid; but he seemed very glad of it (note). I shall write next Saturday if you do what I ask you.
