My dear Edward,
I had hop’d personally to have communicated to you the steps we are about to take in the disposal of the Settled Property, but many untoward circumstances have prevented my paying you a visit, I therefore think it right to state to you, what we are about to do, which I hope, will meet with your approbation as a party concerned. We have thought it advisable to sell the Pilgrim Street property by publick Auction in 4 lots, having it first valued by an Architect here. The proceeds of this Property, which I hope may be from £5–£6,000 are divisible amoung the Six Surviving younger Children in equal Shares–
There are four Sums in the Funds, £3836.8… 3% Consls £3500. 3% Cons. and £617.4.4. South Sea Annuities. The £3836.8. is divided into eighths, amongst the eight younger children, John was heir to Jacob & Henry’s Shares, which now fall into the Estate, as he gave them up in consideration of the Fenton Property–
The £3500.—is divisible into 9 Shares My Father’s Estate taking 3/9ths—2/9th which devolv’d upon him as the next of kin of his deceas’d Sons Jacob & Henry & the 1/9th of my Brother under the agreement I have before referr’d to–
The £617.4.4 is settled upon the Children—Sam an eldest Son with a clause of |Sovereignship|. Therefore we each take 1/6th part of it–
To the best of my legal abilities I have explained their Interests, & can purpose with the consent of all parties to Sell out immediately, as the Funds are looking up. I shall be glad therefore to have your Sentiments–
I am glad to say dearest Bel is recovering her spirits, I wish her to go South, & I am sure she need not wait for an Invitation from you– I hope she will be prevailed upon to do so next week.
I was griev’d to hear dearest Mary has been visited by my old friend Rheumatism—it is a dreadful complaint, I sincerely hope she is better. With my affectionate love to all Believe me
