My dear Edward
My feelings are such that I real[l]y Scarce Know how to write to you in answer to your letters, God knows it has ever been far from my wish or inclination to have kept you above all people out of what was strictly yours, which I feel confident James will avow, for real[l]y & truly I have been most anxious & desirous to have paid you long ago– I am at this moment doing all I can, thro’ Messrs Bloxsome & Wells, to raise what Money I can upon the Fenton Estate & in any way, which will be appropriated to your demand, and I sincerely trust it will not be long before I get it for you, but placed & Situated as I am at this moment, I assure you on my word that I have not Ten pounds in the World– I asked James the other day for assistance and I only received his answer 2 days ago, he states that real[l]y he has it not in his power at present, for sometime ago when you applied to me in the North, he then told me that he would let you have some until I was able to do so, you know not My dear Edward how painful & distressing it is to write you thus, on this subject, but I will not loose [sic] time in obtaining the Money on any terms. Hedley & Jane came here last night & I fancy mean to pay you another visit on their way home. They brought accounts of Mary. We are all quite well here. believe me
