My dear Barrett
I reced your letter yesterday on my return from the Sessions. I think you had best draw a bill on Boddington Philips Sharp & Co at six months sight in favour of Mr. Moore & leave it to him to settle the small bills you allude to. I should suppose 300l would be sufficient. This is the form—on a 5s stamp.

You should inform B P S & Co of this bill by letter and at the same time desire them to pay the sum you want into your bankers hands.
I have had an angry letter from your Mother which I do not very well understand, She thinks we mean to cheat her out of 500l[.] I have written again to explain to her that we only meant to accommodate her earlier than she could possibly get any part of her annuity by waiting for the returns from the Estate. She says She will wait till April for the whole. I cannot conceive how she could lose anything by taking half now. I have requested her to write to you if she has any thing more to say on the subject, since I am so unfortunate as to afford her only displeasure when I mean to do her service. If this news of the defeat of the <French> be true, we may hope for better times but it <is not> generally believed. With best regards to Mrs Barrett
