Dear Sirs

I cannot remember that Mr Moulton Barrett has ever applied to me for the possession of the Retreat. I am certain he never has for the joint possession. As to claims made on the overseer, it would be difficult to point out in what way I could notice them. I desired my Solicitors Messrs Bernard Williams & Land some time since to endeavour to trace the facts relative to this land, & I have to refer you to them respecting all the matters relative thereto. It is rather strange that when Mr Hilton obtained possession of a moiety of the land he did not keep it. This letter will be handed to you by Messrs Bernard Williams & Land, who are also in possession of your letter to me.
