My ever dearest Henrietta
I have just returned from Mrs Sterlings who is dangerously ill, & Doctor Nuttall says that nothing less than a miracle can save her, and I have just taken up my pen by Mr Sterlings request, to say that he would be much obliged to Papa to send him a dozen or two of Ale (home brewed) as Mrs Sterling is ordered to drink it by Doctor Nuttall; he says the stronger the better as he can weaken it as he likes, & if Papa has it if he would send it by the coach as soon as possible; directed to Mr Sterling, No 3 Hyde Park Place West. I as[s]ure you I am extremely angry with you for not writing we have not heard since last Sunday fortnight; I hope by Mr Sterling’s parcel you will let us have a good long one to make up for last time. I went to that party I mentioned in my last letter[.] There were about a hundred I w<en>t at half past nine, & came away at a quarter to four in the morning; it was a delightful party, only rather a tight fit as the rooms were too small for the company; we had a capital supper, and I as[s]ure you I did my best towards cleaning the plates, for they went away minus Turkeys, fowls, cakes, mince pies, whipped creams, sugar baskets, &ccccc, for dancing gave me a capital appetite. We are nearly frozen out, for it is a tremendous frost & a very deep snow; the poor people here are in a wretched state you can hardly move without meeting some; the streets are one sheet of ice & frozen snow. Gran[n]y heard the last Packet from Rebecca, & she says Monies is greatly improved. Miss Barrett has not favoured me with her promised letter, I suppose she is afraid of encountering me, or perhaps she has come to her senses. I thought if she once studied Euclid, she would find her mistake; I hope to recieve a Mathematical letter from her ve<ry so>on. Treppy is waiting for me to go out, so you must excuse the shortness, Bad writng &c. Best love to all
