My dear Sir
I assure you I now look forward with pleasure to the arrival of the Packets, your letters are, each succeeding month, more consoling than the prior one to give me great hopes of the success of the Estates under your judicious management. I think nothing can be clearer and better drawn up than the paper containing the valuation of the properties. It has given me infinite satisfaction.
I thank you sincerely for the promise of the contingencies being small this year. I have not yet heard of the arrival of the Hornby & Thalia, but suppose she must be in England by this time. My arrangements with the house of Boddington are not of that Nature as restricting me from sending any Sugars wherever I please, as the bulk of the Crops must come to London they will of course go to that house, neverless I should wish a similar quantity as heretofore to go to Newcastle and Whitehaven. It has given me great pain that I was not aware of the nature and extent of Dr. Bell’s residence at Oxford, for had I been acquainted with it I should have been the last person to have doubted for a moment what reply I should make to his letter received some time ago. Give my best compliments to him and let me [sic] know how sorry I am for my error and that I hope he will live at Waddough I think they call the place long and happy, and I beg you will accept my best thanks for acquainting me with the circumstances of his residence there and deferring any proceeding till you heard from me. I wrote you last packet respecting Jane Dale, I think with you she would be better off the Estates, but as there must be expenses incurred by the sale of her, I thought it right that Mr Moulton ought to defray them, with respect to the purchase of his Negroes, we must decline it.
