I waited on Mr Tenison, but he sent me a pencilled note saying he was too ill to see me, that the money was ready, & that there was some error in the Title which he had written to you about.– I made out the Title in perfect accordance with the Diagram as I have done so many others, but never found it wrong in number or measure. He gave me no hint of what he thought wrong that I might investigate it & correct it, or explain it, & I regret that I have received no letter from you by this post.– Mr Kelly wishes to purchase the eight lots next the church, for a burying ground. The first two are marked on the Diagram as sold to Miss Steele, & she told me that she had produced receipts from your attornies, which satisfied you that she was entitled to them, & that you promised her a Title for them, I never received instruction from you to that effect: one of the lots was chosen by Mr Thomas, for which a Title is already executed, & which he hopes to be able to pay for shortly. The subject will be laid before the Vestry, & if there should be any difficulty about the purchase of the land next the church, they will select a piece in some other part according to the sum of money which may be appropriated for that purpose. Messrs Dewar have paid to the Bank on your account the sum of £240.13.4. & I have paid the money received from Mr Murray £18.10.—for which I enclose the receipt. when Mr Simon agreed to take the Seraphine, I informed messrs Dewar that they would only have to pay him £60. but they had already paid him £100 & have now paid the balance of the Rum.– They will pay the Rum duties amounting to £69.15. out of the balance of the account current. I only received it today & must compare it with the Estates books before it is paid. Mr Moushatt sent up the account by some careless messenger & it never came to hand until I procured a copy this morning the balance will be but small when the duties are paid & they promise to place it in the Bank as soon as it is struck.– I intended to go up to Oxford on Friday but learnt that Mr Keene would work at the Wharf on Saturday & as Mr Chapman would be at Muster, & there was no Bookkeeper on the Estate, I considered it necessary to return. I wrote urgently to Mr Phillpotts to let me have Messrs Dewars accounts attested or contradicted but am a third time disappointed–
Cornwall Great Gang continue clearing pastures & the other Gangs have been employed in trashing Sunday & pimento pieces the Weather very favourable, principally dry with occasional light showers
