Dear Sir
I purchased from the late S M Barrett 8 Lots of Land for £400 and the Conveyances of which you signed and are in possession of Mr Jentiles your late Uncles Clerk. I wrote Mr Barrett during his Stay in Town, that on clearing away the Bush that two lots of the Land had been |very new|. I [illegible word] a great portion being dug six to 8 feet deep, however his death will now prevent my attaining any deduction from the purchase–
I should have waited on you myself but my health prevents me. I saw Mr Farquharson here a few days since, and he informed me, that you would receive the money, that you were the party who would receive the money, and deliver the Conveyances–
This being the Case I have sent up to my friend Mr Cleghorn £400 who will hand you the same, and receive the Conveyances, £220 is in an order on Kingston @ 30%, should you wish to have it into Cash, it will be done at Montego Bay for a discount of 20% which sum I will hand you, (or Mr Jentiles) when I may have the pleasure of meeting you–
