My dearest Sam
Selby is to deliver this to you; He sails I believe to-morrow, & Sam of Spring Estate with his young child accompany him. With this you will receive the Proposals of which I wrote to you by the last Packet, wherein I stated how I had replied to them, & that further proceedings upon them, if they are to be acted on, depends altogether on the authority to be delegated to Le Blanc, Clive & Cook– I have not spoken to Sam on the subject, neither has he except a hint to me with reference to it, & I think it is as well, for he has no power whatever to act, & conversation with him can only tend to supply him with arguments for our opponents– Pray desire Farquharson to be very guarded, something perhaps may come of this negotiation if we do not appear over anxious–
Selby takes the 50,000 Bricks you desired, freight free & the Anchor &C—he is to give you two Bottles of the Pills, in case you want them, if not throw them away; but I confess I am very sanguine about them, & should those sent by Sughrue have done you good, these may be prized—use them however cautiously, or they will cease to be of use–
I am happy to say that we have got 4/6 for your Rum; your sugar is not yet sold, altho they have been on show now for a Month, the fact is, there is a complete suspension of sales in the Sugar Market, the Sellers are principally firm & the Buyers wont at present buy, resting in the hopes of the Holders giving way. I am not afraid, & I think we shall get our prices–
I hope you get the Examiners they will cost you nothing as I have long taken them in, & having read them, I dispatch them to the Post Office for you without any expence or trouble–
I thought you might also like to see the Athenæum on the same terms, an able work & very interesting as affording some short report of modern Publications. Dreadful cold Weather, & so frozen one may [illegible word] that I can scarcely write–

You will observe some obscure passages in the Proposals & errors of Names, but the Paper is an exact Copy of the original which I have– I shall send you some Books by a later Ship.
